Early Learning & Preschool Programs
The sooner education becomes part of a child’s life, the more likely they are to succeed.
Our district offers several early learning opportunities to help families prepare their children for their futures.
Early Learning Center
The Early Learning Center (ELC) is home to the district's half-day developmental preschool and Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP). These programs help eligible young children and their families be prepared for their first day of kindergarten. The ELC also is home to a Club Discovery Preschool operated by Boys & Girls Clubs of Benton & Franklin Counties.
Tapteal Elementary is home to additional ECEAP classrooms. Families wishing to enroll their child in that program should contact the ELC.
Jason Lee Elementary
Jason Lee Elementary is a neighbor to the Van Giesen Club Discovery Preschool program operated by Boys & Girls Club of Benton & Franklin Counties.
The Promise Kindergarten, or Promise K, program is designed to help close the opportunity gap among students entering kindergarten. Promise K provides children who have not previously attended preschool the opportunity to engage in a high-quality early learning experience. Participating students ride the bus, play at recess, eat lunch in the cafeteria, and take part in specials at their schools like any other kindergartner.
Program teachers work with principals, counselors, Communities in Schools site coordinators, and ECEAP home advocates to identify students who will benefit from the program. Child find efforts begin in November with selected students beginning school in January in a designated Promise K classroom at either Lewis & Clark or Sacajawea Elementary. Those students will move to kindergarten classrooms at their neighborhood elementary school the following fall.
