Three Elementary Schools Named State-Recognized Schools

We are thrilled to announce that Jason Lee, Lewis & Clark, and White Bluffs elementary schools are being recognized by state education officials for closing achievement gaps and helping students grow and be ready for their futures.

The state’s new State-Recognized School designation—determined by the State Board of Education (SBE), the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), and the Educational Opportunity Gap Oversight and Accountability Committee (EOGOAC)—aims to equitably recognize schools and the progress of their students within the Washington School Improvement Framework (WSIF).

The framework includes academic indicators such as student proficiency, growth and graduation rates as well as school quality and student success measures such as attendance and participation in dual credit opportunities. This year's winners were determined by student performance on the state’s Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBAs) for math and language arts from the 2017-18 school year.

“We are thrilled to see our schools being celebrated for the amazing work their staffs are providing in the classroom every day and the growth of their students,” says Brian Moore, Assistant Superintendent for Elementary. “We are committed to helping each student reach their potential and we will continue to help our schools be the best they can be for our community.”

The schools will be officially recognized at a ceremony in Spokane on June 6.
