Richland Education Foundation grant enhances robotics program (photo gallery)

The Robotics Club at Lewis & Clark Elementary School is benefiting from a Richland Education Foundation grant. Club advisor Patrick Lee used the $1400 grant to purchase LEGO® MINDSTORMS® EV3. Robotics Club students are using the LEGO MINDSTORMS to build and program robots.

“These robotics activities would not have been possible without the Foundation grant,” Lee says. “Students work on specific robotics challenges. They are developing programming and problem-solving skills. They are learning about the fields of mathematics, computer science, and mechanical engineering.”

The initial plan for the grant money was to purchase three LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 robotics kits. However, a local home school donated their previous generation LEGO MINDSTORMS to Lewis & Clark.  So, Lee requested permission from the Richland School District to allow the science club to purchase parts for eight robots instead of three. The grant was also used to purchase additional materials (large vinyl mats with a design to support different robotics challenges).
