Local levy money helps support elementary art programs (photo gallery)

What do snowmen do in the middle of the night? Wiley Elementary fourth grade students used chalk and their imaginations to draw scenes based on the book Snowmen at Night.

“The students learned about using a light source to create shading, highlights, and shadowing,” explains art teacher Dan Bell. “In these snowmen scenes, the light source is the moon.”

Students sketched an idea with pencil and paper and then drew the scene with colored chalk on violet construction paper. “Chalk is a soft medium which lends itself perfectly to the smudging and blending needed for these snowmen drawings,” adds Bell.

Elementary art is just one of many Richland School District programs supported by local levy dollars. Learn more about the February 13 levy election at this link.
