Hanford High Guest Artist Series continues with Bob McChesney and Calabria Foti

The Hanford High School Instrumental Music Program welcomes two world-class musicians from Los Angeles to the HHS stage December 8 and 9. The husband and wife team of virtuoso trombonist Bob McChesney and vocalist Calabria Foti will perform with HHS instrumental musicians.

December 8 will be a night of jazz standards and classics. The music of Duke Ellington, Johnny Mandel, Natalie Cole, and many more will be featured through the virtuosic talent of Bob on trombone and Calabria on jazz vocals.

December 9 will be an early evening concert incorporating “Strings and Swing” as the guest artists are accompanied on stage by the Hanford High Symphony Orchestra in partnership with the award-winning HHS Jazz Ensemble “I” under the direction of Chris Newbury. For an additional cover charge of $25 you can join the Artists at Terra Blanca Estate Vineyard at 6pm for a reception.

Bob McChesney can frequently be heard playing on TV shows like Family Guy and the Simpsons, and in hundreds of motion picture scores. Legendary jazz musician Freddie Hubbard says, "This is the most incredible trombone playing I've heard in a long, long time." Bob is a passionate performer and enthusiastic teacher and is in demand worldwide.

Calabria Foti was born into a family of professional musicians. A lover of the standards, Calabria has done extensive research on the songs of the Golden Age of Hollywood. Her latest album, A Lovely Way to Spend and Evening, has received praise from many industry giants such as Jack Jones, Andy Williams, Neal Hefti, Christopher Cross, and Chris Botti. Famed composer Johnny Mandel said, “She has the ability to tell a story and touch your heart… one of the best CDs I have ever heard!”

The proceeds from this concert will raise money for the Hanford Symphony Orchestra that was selected to perform in Indianapolis at the “Orchestra America” Festival in March. Tickets will benefit the entire department and may also be purchased from any member of the HHS Instrumental Music Department.

Guest Artist Concert Week....December 5, 7:00 pm

Featuring EWU Jazz faculty and WSU Jazz Professor and Department Chair - Greg Yasinitsky…….In addition to the Friday and Saturday event, the HHS Jazz program will feature regional Jazz artists on their Fall/Winter concert on Tuesday, December 5, as part of the same series.

“It’s an incredible experience to have this caliber of musician spend a few days with the students. They are able to ask questions and immerse themselves in the wealth of knowledge that these artist and educators possess,” said Chris Newbury HHS Jazz and Orchestra director.
