Wiley Elementary Unveils Book Vending Machine to Reward Positive Behavior and Inspire a Love for Reading

Wiley Elementary is thrilled to announce the arrival of a brand-new book vending machine, designed to reward students who exemplify the school’s core values—the Wiley Big 3: “I can make good decisions, I can show respect, and I can solve problems.”

Students earn PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) points for displaying these great behaviors. Once they’ve accumulated enough points, they can trade them in for a golden token. This token grants them access to the vending machine, where they can select a brand-new book to take home.

This exciting addition to the school was made possible through the generous support of Mrs. Kristine Troyer and the Sunrise Rotary, whose dedication to Wiley’s mission has helped bring this project to life. The school also extends heartfelt thanks to the Wiley 5th Grade Class of 2020, whose fundraising efforts paved the way for this initiative.

To commemorate this special occasion, the very first book selected from the vending machine, The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein, was presented to Mrs. Troyer as a token of appreciation from the students.

“The book vending machine at Wiley Elementary is a symbol of opportunity, giving students the joy of choosing their very own book to take home and cherish,” said Principal Paul Chartrand. “It inspires a love for reading while reinforcing the value of making good decisions, showing respect, and solving problems—aligned with our Wiley Big 3.”

The new book vending machine not only encourages positive behavior but also fosters excitement around reading, offering students a unique and memorable way to engage with books.
