We are proud to announce that Taylor Sandoval, school counselor at William Wiley Elementary, has been honored with the Washington School Counselor Association's (WSCA) Rising Star Award. This prestigious award recognizes an outstanding, early-career counselor who has demonstrated exceptional dedication and impact within their school community.
Taylor, now in her third year as a school counselor in the Richland School District and her fifth year in the profession, has already made significant contributions to student well-being and school counseling practices. In her first year with the district, she served on the Comprehensive School Counseling Program (CSCP) implementation committee, helping shape the district’s response to new state requirements under SSB 5030. Simultaneously, she took the lead in developing a CSCP for Wiley Elementary, creating a comprehensive, data-driven program that ensures all students receive the support they need.
Taylor is known for her unwavering commitment to students, families, and staff. Her work prioritizes social-emotional learning, student leadership, and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. Wiley Elementary Principal Paul Chartrand praises her contributions, stating, “Taylor looks out for each and every student at Wiley. She has a huge heart and has really focused on getting our counseling department the best it can be. She has great ideas to make situations better for our kids and works tirelessly every day to make our Wiley students successful.”
Colleagues describe Taylor as energetic, professional, and deeply compassionate. Feedback from staff and families highlights her ability to foster trusting relationships, provide critical support during crises, and create a welcoming and safe environment for all students. Students see her as a trusted adult, someone they can confide in and rely on for guidance and encouragement. One staff member noted, “Taylor is a problem solver who is guided by a kind and empathetic heart. She is a ‘do-er’ and has done so much to support the emotional well-being of our school.”
Families echo this sentiment, recognizing her as a valuable resource and advocate for their children. “Taylor is perceived by families as an ally, a support, and someone who is part of the team,” one parent shared. “She is a guiding light and a safe haven for so many in our community.”
We are thrilled to celebrate Taylor’s well-earned recognition and thank her for her commitment to student success. Her passion, dedication, and tireless work make Wiley Elementary, and the entire district, a better place for students to learn and grow.
Congratulations to Taylor Sandoval on receiving the WSCA Rising Star Award!
