River’s Edge Teacher Honored as NCCE Innovative Educator of the Year

Congratulations to Forrest McKinnis, Career and Technical Education (CTE) teacher at River’s Edge High School, who has been named the 2026 Innovative Educator of the Year by the Northwest Council for Computer Education (NCCE).

A long-time NCCE participant and advocate for innovative teaching practices, Forrest consistently brings emerging technologies and new instructional strategies back to his classroom and school community. His dedication to professional learning has had a lasting impact on how technology is integrated at River’s Edge, benefiting both students and staff.

Forrest has helped lead the school’s transition to a project-based learning model at REHS, where students apply academic content to real-world experiences. In his Business and Marketing courses, students earn multiple credits while developing digital products for real clients, building confidence, independence, and career-ready skills in the process.

Beyond his classroom, Forrest shares innovative practices with colleagues and inspires instructional creativity across the school community.

His work is a great example of how thoughtful technology integration and a strong commitment to student success can expand learning opportunities for students.

Congratulations, Forrest, on this well-deserved recognition!
