Richland School District Receives $5,000 Grant to Enhance Elementary STEM Education

The Richland School District is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded a generous grant of $5,000 to further its commitment to STEM education for our students. The grant, provided by Pacific Northwest National Laboratories operated by Battelle, will play a pivotal role in advancing the district's focus of providing students with enriching experiences that increase academic success.

The district used grant money to purchase Sphero indi Education Robots which are designed to introduce early learners, Pre-K and up, to the fundamentals of computational thinking, STEAM, and computer science principles while encouraging open-ended, imaginative play-based learning with real-life scenarios as students build custom mazes and solve puzzles. The Indi classroom sets were used during RSD’s Elementary STEM Camps held this summer and have been distributed to elementary schools for use during the 2023-24 school year.

"We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Battelle for their generous support of public education," says the district’s Director of Instructional Technology Enid Flynn. "This grant allowed us to purchase STEM learning tools that are engaging for our students and promote creative problem-solving skills.”
