Is your high school student looking for a more intimate learning environment? Do they want more freedom to explore their interests? Need help finding the connections between what they learn in the classroom and how it applies to a future career? River’s Edge High School may be for them!
The school will have an open house from 3 to 5 p.m. on June 2 at its campus at 975 Gillispie St. in Richland. This will include tours of the campus and opportunities for students and parents to engage with staff.
River’s Edge offers a project-based learning experience combined with small class sizes and a tightknit community that embraces dialogue and reflection between staff and students.
With project-based learning, most assignments are completed by students in groups who learn subjects such as math, science, language arts, and history, as well as other skills, as part of each project. The model also means students can meet multiple graduation credits with a single course.
Projects are graded on the four-point Standards Based Grading (SBG) scale aimed at measuring student proficiency for each learning standard.
Through the Career Choice program, River’s Edge offers multiple opportunities for students to explore careers and find their “why.” The programs offers internships and job shadows through community partners, assistance with planning for college and helping students earn credits through Work-Based Learning.
