Amy Salinas will be the next principal for Jefferson Elementary!
Mrs. Salinas, who most recently served as an assistant principal at Carmichael Middle School, will take on her new role immediately. She replaces Derek O’Konek, who left the school to pursue an opportunity outside education.
“We are excited to have Amy taking the reins at Jefferson,” says Assistant Superintendent Brian Moore. “She is eager to get to work, support staff, connect with families and ensure that students are engaged in learning every day.”
Mrs. Salinas started her teaching career in elementary schools in the West Valley and East Valley school districts of Yakima County before joining Sacajawea Elementary in the 2016-17 school year. She started there as a classroom teacher before becoming an instructional specialist. She earned her administrative credential and joined Carmichael as an assistant principal in the 2019-20 school year.
Mrs. Salinas holds a bachelor’s in Elementary Education from Central Washington University, a masters of education in Elementary Reading & Early Literacy from Walden University and a masters of science in Educational Leadership from Western Governors University.
