Hanford High Student Wins Congressional Art Contest

Junior Alexander Marquez’s expressive self-portrait took the top prize in the Congressional Art Competition for all students residing in Washington state’s 4th Congressional District.

Alexander’s piece, “A Year Overdue,” depicts him peering into his school after schools moved to online learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It will be hung in the U.S. Capitol alongside winning entries from congressional districts across the country for one year and Alexander will attend a reception in Washington, D.C. this summer.
