Hanford High School Honored At 5th Avenue Theatre Awards

Hanford High School’s production of “Disney’s Newsies” is this year's Outstanding Overall Musical of all high school drama productions across the state.

The show received that award and won Best Performance by a Chorus at the 17th annual 5th Avenue Theatre Awards for high school drama. The school's spring production of "Into the Woods" won Best Performance by an Ensemble Group while student Jeffrey Smart earned a special student achievement award.

Hanford High had 18 award nominations in this year’s awards, which considered performances from a record 128 productions from more than 100 schools across the state. This is the third time the school earned the Outstanding Overall Musical award out of being nominated eight times. The cast performed at the awards ceremony as did seniors Tru Stites and Kimberly Bevan-Church who reprised their solos from their roles in “Newsies” and “Into The Woods,” respectively.

The 5th Avenue Theatre Awards honors outstanding dramatic achievement in Washington state high schools and celebrates the hard work and dedication students and educators put forth to make their school musical productions a success.
