Policy 6970 - Naming Schools and Facilities

District school or support facilities, new or existing, will be named after geographic characteristics of the area in which the facility is located or after deceased persons who have achieved local or national stature resulting from enduring contributions in the fields of education, arts and sciences, historical significance to the region, military achievements, and statesmanship.

Generally, the Board will not name portions of facilities, playfields, stadiums, or other facilities smaller than the entire school. The Board of Directors may choose to name a school or portion of a school in honor of a private individual or company who makes a significant monetary contribution to the school district. The District will determine what constitutes a significant monetary contribution.

Names must not conflict with names of other schools in the District or surrounding districts.
