Policy 3124 - Removal-Release of Students During School Hours
The Richland School District’s Board of Directors recognizes its responsibility for the proper care of students during school hours. While Policy 3242 allows for students in grades nine through twelve to leave school grounds during lunch time or any other times when they are not scheduled for classes, students will not be removed from school grounds, any school building or school function during school hours except by an authorized person. Before a student is removed or excused, the person seeking to remove the student must present, to the satisfaction of the principal or their designee, evidence of his/her proper authority to remove the student.
Prior to sending a student to his/her home for illness, discipline or a corrective action, the principal or their designee will attempt to reach the student's parent and emergency contracts to inform him/her of the school's action and to request that he/she come to the school for the child. If the principal or their designee cannot reach the parent and the student’s emergency contacts, the student will remain at school until the close of the school day. A student may be released to a law enforcement officer in accordance with district policy.
