Hazel Health Teletherapy Services

Teletherapy is the use of technology to provide care virtually. All Hazel visits are "virtual visits", through a tablet, desktop, or other smart device.

School: Hazel is available at school, during regular school hours. The school counselor or designated staff uses an iPad to help connect your child directly with a Hazel therapist over live video in a private and confidential room.

Home: Hazel is available to your child at home. You can join therapy sessions at home using your Hazel account.

Mental health providers are licensed Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, Licensed Professional Counselors, and Licensed Mental Health Counselors. 

More than 40% of Hazel's providers are bilingual, speaking over 13 languages collectively, including English, Spanish, French, Haitian Creole, Vietnamese, Gujarati, Armenian, Croatian,  Korean, Tagalog, Lokano dialect, Hawaiian Pidgin, Samoan, Sign Language, and more.

Parent Permission: With your permission, your child will have access to Hazel's care team. You only need to complete the consent form one time for each child.

Therapy Referral: Referrals can come from you as the parent, or from trusted school staff who know your child.

Care At No Cost: By partnering with your school, Hazel Health visits are at no cost to your family.

Visits From Home: From home, your child can connect with a Hazel provider or join their scheduled therapy appointment.

Visit Involvement: You can participate in your child's visits virtually from home or from work.

Continued Support: After care, if needed, our clinical support team follows up with you to continue to support your child's needs.

Each student can typically expect an intake visit plus six weeks to two months of weekly sessions before being discharged from the Hazel program. The program is short-term—if your child needs long-term mental health support, we will help identify options in your community. Our providers may use their clinical discretion to provide care services beyond two months on a case-by-case basis if a student encounters challenges connecting to long-term care.

Hazel Health has partnered with your school to cover your cost of services so that there is no cost to your family.

Why is insurance needed if a Hazel visit is at no cost to me? We will bill your insurance to cover the cost of your visit, so there is no cost to you. Once a visit is completed, you may receive an explanation of benefits (EOB) in the mail. If you receive an EOB, this is NOT a bill, it is simply a record indicating a visit occurred and was billed to your insurance, but not billed to you. No additional action is needed.

What if I don’t have insurance? You can access Hazel services at no cost to your family. We may verify your uninsured status after sign-up.

All student health information will stay confidential and in compliance with HIPAA. School staff members who refer a student to Hazel’s mental health service are able to look up whether that student successfully enrolls with Hazel, but will not receive any details about that students’ care plan or health information without your explicit permission. Student information is stored on Hazel’s highly secure, fully encrypted digital records platform.
