The following activities are being offered this year:
Rooks, pawns, and knights! Oh my! Yes, it's chess time again at Tapteal Elementary. We had a very successful year at tournaments last year and I am anxious for another exciting year. Chess Club is open to ALL Tapteal Students grades Kindergarten - 5th grade. We will be meeting from 3:15-3:45 every other Thursday in the library. Whether you know how to play or know nothing about chess, you are welcome! I would love to have a parent helper or two ESPECIALLY the beginning of the year when kids are first learning the game. Contact Mrs. Ufford - Advisor, for more
information.
All 5th graders who love to sing are invited to join. The choir meets Wednesday and Thursday at lunchtime. This is a whole year commitment with performances at the Veteran's Day Assembly, the Christmas Assembly, the Choir Showcase with other 5-12 grade choirs in Richland (there will be ~200 4th and 5th graders in one choir!), and an end of the year trip to Coulee City/Grand Coulee Dam! Contact Mr Jamieson for more
information.
German Club will take place in the library and will be taught by Mrs. Neitzel. First and second graders will meet on Mondays at lunch. Third through fifth graders will meet on Tuesdays at lunch. We will focus on oral language and will learn the language through stories, role plays, rhymes, and song. Culture will also be highlighted. The best time to learn languages is when one is young, and every language that we learn makes learning the next language easier! Contact Mrs. Neitzel-Cleavenger - Advisor, for more information. NEW NEW NEW at Tapteal for 4th and 5th graders. Some skills that kids will be working on include: balance beam, beginning to intermediate tumbling, and flexibility. Gymnastics club will run every Monday from 3:15-3:45. Cost is $10 to help pay for T-shirts and tumbling mats/equipment. Contact Mrs Byrd - Advisor, for more information.
Kid Calypso is Tapteal's talented Steel Drum Band. It is a group of 4th and 5th graders that perform not only at Tapteal but all around the Tri-City community and other cities around the Northwest. More Information All 4th and 5th graders who are interested in learning a string instrument (violin, viola, cello, and string bass) are invited to join. The orchestra meets Monday through Wednesday 8:15 - 8:40 am. This is a whole year commitment with performances at the Christmas Assembly, the Tapteal Spring Concert for Grades 3-5, the Richland School District Orchestra Gala in the spring, and an end of the year trip to Coulee City/Grand Coulee Dam! Contact Mrs. O'Hara for more
information.
At Tapteal, all 5th grade students are invited to join the patrol through teacher recommendation, a completed application, and with parent approval. See more Information. Contact Mr. Ouellette - Advisor, for more information. Tech Club is an opportunity for students to expand their knowledge in technology. First and second graders will meet at lunch on Thursdays in the library and third though fifth graders will meet on Thursdays and Fridays in the library or computer lab. Students bring their hopes and enthusiasm to learn about electronic technologies. We may work with all sorts of technologies ranging from using digital cameras to creating slide shows. Together we may even create simple web sites. As we work towards proficiency, our focus will be to create projects that will enhance our school’s monthly assemblies. Students may also have the chance to pursue individualized projects. Contact Mrs. Neitzel-Cleavenger - Advisor, for more information.
