All RHS students planning to earn a diploma from the Richland School District participate in the state mandated Culminating Project. This portfolio-based project will provide you with an opportunity to examine your skills and abilities as well as articulate plans for your future. Specifically, the portfolio will showcase your knowledge, abilities and skill in the areas of communication, problem solving, time management and organization.
Junior and senior level portfolios meeting the graduation requirement for culminating project will also be valuable tools as you participate in employment, scholarship, and admission interviews.
During freshman and sophomore year, you will begin collecting the work samples and materials that will serve as the building blocks for the portfolio. In your Junior year you will add career and educational planning work in preparation for the transition from high school into after-high-school education or the world of work.
Classroom teachers will be helping you to identify the items you should be saving for your portfolios. As you finish projects you would like to save, you may save them in your personal storage portfolio located in the library or online in your electronic storage portfolio. You may access your library folder by presenting your student ID to the circulation desk. Electronic storage portfolios may be accessed from any computer using Internet Explorer and the password/username information you identified for your account.
Electronic portfolios will automatically be set-up for incoming Freshmen each August. Portfolios will be created for transfer students at entry. Students will have one electronic folder to use throughout their RHS experience. You are responsible for placing work samples in either the library or electronic portfolios in preparation for the monitoring sessions held in April and November.
In the fall and spring you will meet in small groups to review your progress with teachers. Schedules for the monitoring sessions will be distributed in homeroom classes in the Career Connections newsletter. Schedules are also posted throughout the RHS campus. A calendar for the year is available in the Project Guide and Calendar link above.
After each monitoring session, the families of students who have not made progress will be contacted.
