After High School Options |
|
Should you be a Cougar, Eagle, Marine, or apprentice? Often times when students are asked what they plan to do after graduation the response is immediately to attend the school that is the home of their favorite sports team or parent alma mater. You may be lucky and find that this school is the perfect choice, however, it is just as likely that the school is the wrong choice. Before you lock in on your decision, take some time to consider what you really need and hope to accomplish in postsecondary education and training. By answering the questions below you will have a set of personal criteria to use as you research and critique your options. 1. What is your career pathway? 2. Do you have specific job titles or clusters of jobs that you would be interested in pursuing? 3. Is there a specific course of study that interests you? 4. What type of school is most appropriate for your career plan? (technical college, community college, public university etc.) 5. Is it important for you to have assistance in finding employment when you finish your training and education? 6. How much are you willing to pay for tuition, books and fees? 7. Where do you want to live? (Tri-Cities, Seattle etc.) 8. Do you anticipate needing tutoring, child care or night classes? 9. What kind of housing arrangements are most desirable? 10. How long do you want to study or train? 11. Are you happiest in a large environment that has many people or do you prefer a smaller work and learning environment?
Use your responses to the questions above to guide you the option that best meets your needs.
