Parent Input Meeting, April 23, 6:30 - 7:30, Gym

Parent Input Meeting Regarding Next Year's Marcus Whitman Start Time: 

Assistant Superintendent Mike Hansen and the district transportation department will be available to discuss plans and options for our late arrival time next year.  If you have input to give or just would like to listen to gain information, we hope you can attend.

Planning Ahead for the 2015-16 School Year: 

Marcus Whitman School will be under construction and rebuilt next school year.  We are very excited about our brand new building opening in the fall of 2016.  All Marcus Whitman students will be attending school at the old Sacajawea Elementary building for the 2015-16 school year.  Transportation will be available to families.  Because of the increased demand on district transportation and the fact that we will be sharing a campus with the new Sacajawea Elementary, our start times may be altered next year.  The Richland School District will be scheduling forums for Marcus parents and staff to listen to concerns and weigh options as our start time is set for next year.

Kindergarten Registration Information: 

Parents, if you have new kindergarteners to register for next fall, PLEASE come in and complete regristration paperwork as soon as possible.  We are trying to build those classes right now.  You can stop in and get your kindergarten registration packet at the front office.  The more registrations we can get in before June, the better we can plan as a school (and possibly have lower class sizes at Marcus Whitman).

Class Placement Parent Input Forms for 2015-16:

Parents, if you are interested in providing us information about your child that would help us determine the best class placement for next year, please stop by the office and pick up a parent input form.  Your input is valuable in our decision making process.  The deadline for parent input forms to be received is Friday, May 15.  We do not take specific teacher requests but we do welcome information about your child that we can use to make the best placement possible.

Student Transfers:

Planning for next year...If you are a transfer family into Marcus Whitman from either another Richland school or outside the district, we wanted to remind you that all families MUST reapply THIS year.  All Richland elementary school boundaries were redrawn for the 2015-16 school year.  If you applied to come back to Marcus Whitman, you should have received notification on your 2015-16 status.  If you have questions about student transfers, contact Connie Harrison at the district office 509-967-6003.

Extra forms are available in the Marcus office.  You must have your order in this week!

PTA News:

WANTED! Individuals interested in learning more about volunteering as a PTA officer next year.  At a minimum PTA requires a President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary to function.  Please call Abby Stevens at 943-2187 or email for more information.  This is an exciting opportunity to network with parents and school staff and enrich our children's education!

MARCUS WHITMAN CARNIVAL AND FAMILY FAIR is coming Saturday May 16!  PTA is seeking donations for a silent auction.  We would like to include handmade arts and crafts created by Marcus students, families and staff.  Anything goes!  Painted art, wood crafts, handmade furniture, crochet/knitted items, quilts, home-sewn clothing or accessories, mixed media art, pottery, trash-to-treasure creations, handmade home decor, etc.  So put on your creative caps and use your talents to create something amazing that will benefit our students!  Watch for donation and volunteer forms to come home very soon.
