Welcome to the Marcus Whitman Elementary website! Marcus Whitman Elementary is one of nine elementary schools in the Richland School District. We have 390 students in grades K-5 and serve families in the great city of Richland, WA.
Family involvement is very important to us at Marcus Whitman. We have a strong partnership with our PTA, encourage family involvement in the classrooms and host many family activities throughout the year (SLAM Night, Parenting Workshops, Open House, Family Bingo Night, Family Movie Night, PTA Carnival, Family Craft Night, PTA ‘Pick-A-Price’ Yard-sale, etc...).
As Mustangs… we pride ourselves on responsibility and citizenship. Throughout the school and every classroom, we focus and emphasize the Big Three: 1. Showing Respect, 2. Making Good Decisions, and 3. Solving Problems. Each month, we have a different character education trait that we target as a building. As a staff, we take every opportunity to build positive relationships with students and recognize them for doing the right thing.
We celebrate growth! At Marcus Whitman, we are all about getting better every day. We celebrate improvement together as a staff. We also celebrate improvement with our students and families. Each month, students can be nominated for a ‘student of the month’ award based on improvements made in the classroom.
Marcus Whitman is a school-wide Title-I school. This allows us to support our students in many different ways. We are very proud that we can provide small group instruction to students, extended day opportunities for learning, and a summer learning "bridge" program (coming summer 2013).
Thank you for visiting the Marcus Whitman Webpage! Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about our great school!
It’s always a great day to be a Mustang!
Art Walk - Arrive early before the musical to walk through our Marcus Whitman Museum of Art. Mrs. Bolz has been working very hard on our hallways this month to showcase Marcus student artists alongside famous art masterpieces.
Author visit with Matthew McElligott was awesome!!! Thanks for coming to our school!
Weather Closure/Delay Information
Parents, staff and students wishing to receive Richland School District weather closure/delay announcements via email, text message, or push notification can sign up by going to: http://flashalert.net/news.html?id=1845 (if you already have an active account, you do not need to sign up again, but you do need to log in to your account once a year to keep it active).
When you get to that page, start the process by entering your email address and setting a password. Once the account is established, you may add one or two additional email or cell text addresses. Each new entry will require you to launch a test message to that address which will contain a two-letter code which must be entered back onto your account page to ensure that the address(es) is valid, or by clicking the link in the message.
Bear in my mind that the cell phone companies get backlogged on weather mornings as they try to keep up with the text messages, so it is recommended that you not rely entirely on text messages. We urge you to download the new, free app for iOS and Android called FlashAlert Messenger. It uses push notification to send messages directly to your phone, bypassing the cell companies' text message channel. Search for FlashAlert Messenger at the iTunes App Store (iOS) or at Google Play (Android).
