LEWIS & CLARK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

2004-2005 School Performance Report

800 Downing, Richland, WA 99352 (509) 967-6275

Martin Brewer, Principal

Our School Improvement Plan

Lewis & Clark staff members are committed to providing students with a safe and productive learning environment. Annual WASL results provide us with a gauge of progress toward this goal. We will improve students’ WASL scores in reading from 78.5% to 80.3%, writing from 70.9% to 73.3%, and math from 67.1% to 69.8% in 2006. We will do this by implementing, following, and updating the Lewis & Clark Learning Improvement Plan.

Our Facility

Lewis & Clark was dedicated in 1970. It has 440 students with a capacity of 479 students. The carpets were replaced in l998. The interior of the school was painted in l999. The lights and HVAC were replaced during the summer of 2002. The outside of the school was painted in the spring of 2004.

Our facility is used extensively outside normal school hours. During the AAU seasons, it is difficult to find a time when the gymnasium is not being used. In the spring, summer, and fall, our playgrounds are used heavily for soccer and city league baseball.

Quality Programs

Chapter I and Learning Assistance Programs help students with reading and math. We also give reading and math help to students in our Special Education Program.

The Student/Teacher Assistance Team helps with students’ academic and behavior concerns. Students receive assistance from this early intervention program.

The Special Friends Program is an adult and student friendship program run completely at the school site. An adult is matched up with a student as a mentor to develop resiliency skills.

We recognize students with our “Student of the Month” program.

Our Chess club won the National Chess Competition in 2002.

Highly Capable Program (GATE) for 3 rd-5 th is located at Lewis and Clark.

Behavior modification program (BESST) for Kindergarten – 2 nd is located at Lewis and Clark.
