To
create the butterfly tower you see pictured above you will need two
circles of ¼" plywood 24" in diameter. Paint the entire
wood surface with latex interior paint for easy clean-up and protection
from warping caused by water spills.
Next you will need 2½ yards of 72" wide bridal tulle (soft, fine netting) and about 4½ yards of decorative fabric binding. Staple the 2 ½ yard length of the tulle around the outside edges of the plywood circles, overlapping the beginning and end. This will serve as the entrance to the tower. The width of the tulle (72") will be the 6' length of the tower. Glue the decorative binding tape all around the sides of the wood, covering the cut edge of the tulle on both the top and bottom wood circles of the tower. Finish by stapling the binding to the sides of the wood circles, giving the tower a finished look. Twist eyelet screws into the wood top of the tower near the outer edges. Attach nylon cord or chain to each eyelet and bring together at the top center. Hang the tower from the ceiling, being careful to rest the full weight of the tower on a table or desk. |
