Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe the month of September has slipped away so quickly! It has definitely been a busy one filled with a lot of learning. I know I have personally learned a lot about the Jason Lee school community and must share with you how very impressed I am. The students have been an absolute joy, as well as the staff. I am sure you already know what I have learned this month.that your children are in the excellent care of a phenomenal staff of professionals who want the absolute best for each and every child.

Jason Lee had a lot to celebrate the day our WASL (Washington Assessment of Student Learning) scores were released. We experienced growth in many areas with our largest increases taking place at the 5th grade level. Our 5th graders experienced growth in Reading, Math, and Science. Our 4th graders experienced growth in both Reading and Math. After careful analysis of all of our scores, taking a close look at the content strands, we were able to see more clearly where to focus our instruction. In writing it appears as though Content, Organization, and Style are the areas where intentional focus could bring about substantial improvement for our students. The specific strand that our students are experiencing difficulty with encompasses sentence fluency, transitions, voice, organization, ideas, and content. As you can imagine, this will be an area of focus for us this year. Please watch for grade level information regarding writing. Our staff is already hard at work using the data to inform their instruction!

Grade Level
Reading Math Writing Science
3rd 75% 71.6%
4th 83.9% 58.7% 61.3%
5th 84.8% 72.8% 47.8%

I must thank all of you for your assistance and support of our pick up and drop off location in the large parking lot off Sanford. If you were one of the drivers we met in our first days of school when we were passing out safety fliers with candy attached, I'd like to thank you for your kind comments. The only help we need from you is the following.

1.Please make sure you and your students use the crossing guards along the designated safe walking routes to cross the streets. It is not that we don't trust you crossing the streets as an adult; it is that we need as many adults as possible to be positive role models for our students on how to get to school safely.
2.Please continue to pick up your children in the front, main parking lot off Sanford.
3.Please pull forward in the afternoon when picking up your children. As you can see, the traffic behind cars that stop has caused cars to back up, potentially causing an accident and creating poor visibility for both cars and students.
4.Please continue to be respectful of the homes, yards, and driveways of our neighbors by using our parking lot as the pickup and drop off location. Thank you!

I hope the upcoming weeks are fabulous for you. I would like to thank you for your kindness as the  new kid" on the block at Jason Lee. Thank you for sharing your children with us. It is truly an honor to serve as your school principal.

Sincerely,

Kathryn A. Page, Principal
Jason Lee Elementary
