Accessing Groupwise from the Internet

Attention Microsoft Vista users!

For those of you who have Vista on your home PC/laptop here's a work around to allow you to access Groupwise WebAccess. This also assumes you're using Internet Explorer 7.0. (Help, About will show you the version)

1. Open your browser
2. Click on Tools, Internet Options.
3. Click on the Advanced tab.
4. Uncheck TLS 1.0
5. Scroll to the bottom and check "Use SSL 2.0"
6. Click OK.

Note: Step 4 may need to be turned back on in order to access other secure web sites. It shouldn't impact regular browsing.

Future updates to WebAccess will resolve this problem.

You can get access to your Groupwise e-mail account via the Internet. There are a few things that you need to be aware of when before you use Groupwise WebAccess.

Please read/print this entire message before you proceed.

1) You must setup a password on your e-mail account prior to accessing your e-mail from the Internet. For simplicity sake, we recommend that you use your network login password for your e-mail password. To set this, open your Groupwise Mailbox then go to Tools, Options, Security.

2) The URL to Groupwise WebAccess is
https://webmail.rsd.edu/gw/webacc
You must type this in exactly as it appears above. (or click the link)

If you get a screen like this, it's OK to click yes. Nothing strange is happening.

3) Your WebAccess login name is your first and last name exactly as they appear in the Groupwise Address Book.groupwise login screen

4) When you attempt to access Groupwise WebAccess, you may be prompted to accept certificates. Say Yes to these questions until your browser is satisfied. If you can save the certificate for future use, do so. There are too many variations of browsers available for use for us to provide a How-To on certificates. Basically, the system is making sure you have a secure connection in which to view, modify, create, update your e-mail. We will continue to work with this feature to see if we can streamline it.

5) If prompted, never, never save your password in your browser profiles for future reference.

6) Groupwise WebAccess is generally unavailable Monday-Friday from approximately 10:00pm-2:00pm while be run the nightly backups. We shutdown the post offices during backup jobs to ensure an error free backup, which becomes very important in the event of disaster recovery.

7) Speed and performance of WebAccess is directly affected by the speed and performance of your Internet connection. DSL and Cable-Modem access is going to be much faster than a dial-up connection. The number of people simultaneously accessing WebAccess will also impact performance.

8) WebAccess will automatically log you out if there is no activity within 10 minutes. Also, when you log out of WebAccess you are automatically forwarded to the RSD Home Page.

9) You must Update the main page when reading, deleting, moving messages. This activates the web client to access your mailbox and refresh your e-mail window. This is located above the subject menu bar and is labeled Update.

10) Logout each and every time you complete your WebAccess session. Again, never save any login or password information.

Functionality looks and feels very similar to your existing Groupwise client interface.
