GOALS

 

Issue #1

Number of students meeting standard in math

 

Supporting data

•The number of students passing the math portion of the WASL has gone from 59.9% in 2001 to 51.4% in 2003

•State recommendations

 

 

Goal Established:

•The number of students not meeting the standard in math will decrease by 25% over the next 3 years utilizing the 2003 WASL data.

 

Issue #2

Number of students meeting standard in Reading

 

 

Supporting Data:

•The number of students passing the reading portion of the WASL has gone from 76.7% in 2000 to 70.1% in 2003

•State recommendations

 

Goal Established:

•The number of students not meeting the standard in reading will decrease by 25% over the next 3 years utilizing the 2003 WASL data.

 

 

Issue #3

Number of students meeting standard in Writing

 

 

Supporting Data:

•The number of students passing the writing portion of the WASL has gone from 73.2% in 2002 to 69.6% in 2003

•State recommendations

 

Goal Established:

•The number of students not meeting the standard in writing will decrease by 25% over the next 3 years utilizing the 2003 WASL data.

 

 

 

 

Issue #4

Student awareness of occupational interests and options and how they relate to choosing future courses

 

Supporting Data:

•Master Schedule

•Perception surveys show that a minority of students and parents see a real world connection with their studies

 

Goal Established:

•By 2008, there will be pathways for all students to follow that will address a variety of interests and still provide appropriate academic preparation for all post secondary opportunities.

 

 

Issue #5

Freshman Success

 

Supporting Data:

•Student discipline for freshman

•Failure rate of freshman

•Freshman grades

 

Goal Established:

•To provide a strong, organized freshman transition program with the involvement of mentors and staff by the beginning of the 2005-2006 school year.

 

Issue #6

The purchase and maintenance of new technology for Hanford High School, especially as it relates to district and building technology goals in light of the new remodel of Hanford High School.

 

Supporting Data:

•The “Nine Characteristics” survey shows that teachers are concerned about HHS providing a supportive learning environment

•Perception surveys show that students, parents and teachers fee that school’s facilities are inadequate to support the instructional program

 

Goal Established:

•By the end of the HHS remodel, appropriate technology will be available to provide increased educational opportunities to support students and staff.

 

 

 

 

Issue #7

Culminating project requirements include involvement in activities, leadership and teamwork

•Perception surveys show a minority of students see a real world connection with their studies

•Perception surveys show that parents, teachers and staff identify substance abuse/student decision making as significant problems

 

Goal Established:

•By 2006, students will have improved institutional support in areas of service, activities and teamwork. 

 

 

Issue #8

Students need to plan for post secondary opportunities

 

Supporting Data:

•New state mandates (4 P’s: Portfolio, Plan, Project, Pathways)

•Perceptions surveys show that a minority of students and parents see a real world connection to their studies

 

Goal Established:

•By the end of the 2004-05 school year, a culminating project will be implemented that includes career planning and a 13th year plan.
