Welcome to Chief Joseph Middle School Home of the EAGLES
ATTENDANCE:We believe regular attendance in school is essential for satisfactory learning and development. The easiest way to deal with an absence is for the parent/guardian to call the attendance secretary the day of the absence (967-6402). Students who are ill, have doctor’s appointments, death in the family or an unavoidable family emergency are marked as excused and the teachers are notified.
Please call the attendance line (967-6402) when your child is not in school by 8:00 a.m. This phone number is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Absences that have not been called in by the end of the day will be changed from unverified, to unexcused. Four (4) unexcused absences may result in a BECCA bill court order. Homework Requests Homework can be requested through the attendance line before 10 a.m., and on the 2nd day of illness. Pre-arranged Absences If you know that your child will be missing school for a full day or more, please pre-arrange the absence 2 days in advance. A permission note from a parent/guardian must be provided before a pre-arranged contract can be given to the student.Pre-arranged contracts can be picked up in the office.
· PERMISSION TO LEAVE SCHOOL For safety and accountability, students should never leave school during regular school hours without checking out in the office. If you plan to pick up your student during the regular school day for an appointment, you need to send a note with the student to the office asking that they be excused at the time to meet the parent in the office. The parent/guardian MUST sign the student out before the student leaves the school building.
Please see the attached form or the school district web-site at www.RSD.edu for questions regarding appropriate dress.
- EAGLE POWER (PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES WITH EVERYDAY READING) EAGLE P.O.W.E.R. IS A REGULARLY SCHEDULED TIME FOR SILENT READING THAT IS A PRIORITY at Chief Joseph Middle School. The emphasis will be on all of our students self-selecting their own reading materials and reading 12 minutes everyday during Eagle POWER.
We encourage your child to spend at least 20 minutes per night reading at home. Children who read well come from homes in which there are plenty of books, magazines, and newspapers and in which everyone reads-parents, brothers, and sisters. Please let your children see you reading and enjoying it!
