The comprehensive scope and sequence of this course meets all the Essential Academic Learning Requirements for social studies as established by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction.

The course is outlined in the Richland School District Curriculum Guide for social studies (section 8 in the current binder). The written standards for geography, global issues, civics, economics, behavioral sciences, and history of the Pacific Northwest are followed. The social studies curriculum standards were written to be in line with the state essential learnings.

The academic goal is to develop and nurture the students' regional awareness, appreciation, and understanding of the Pacific Northwest.
