Present: Melissa Callaway, Eadie Balint, Gail Ledbetter, Wendy Gosselin, Kris Mitchell, Sharee McKay, Tamara Marlin, Jodi Podhaisky, Jo Givin, Gretchen Saunders.

Call to Order: 7:08pm, by Melissa Callaway. Quorum. Announcements from district: Doug Gall introduced World Languages idea for district. Possible Immersion program? RSD gathering more info. Melissa presented note from BME 5th grader asking for new playground toy.

Presentation of Minutes: Gretchen Saunders, Feb minutes approved with additional wording of “approximately $9000 for 6 tech carts” in New Bus.

Treasurer Report: Kris Mitchell, Feb. - Income $67.50 Expense $10,399.84 (statement attached).

Principal’s Report: Gail Ledbetter, Conferences are next week. K’garten Readiness program was very successful, 42 registered. GLAD training for teachers to be continued this summer. WASL will be week after Spring Break. MAP testing for grades 3-5 will be after WASL. Spring writing assessment will be in May. Looking at staffing for next year. 563 current enrollment. March 7 is Dr. Seuss Read – In day.

Teacher Representative Report: Wendy Gosselin, 5 DI teams to regionals in Wenatchee this weekend.

Gift Request: Gretchen Saunders, Individual White Boards for Sperline classroom, Motion to fully fund made by Kris Mitchell, 2nd and unanimously approved. Gail presented letter from 5th grade team asking for $400 for scholarships for Seattle Field trip. Kris made motion to move $400 from undesignated funds to scholarship fund. 2nd and unanimously approved.

Old Business: Melissa Callaway.

  • T-shirts, available soon in t-shirts, hoodies, and tote bags. Emma Sleight won design contest.
  • K’garten teachers still working on list of classroom literacy books.
  • Rock Wall, working with insurance, and company that will install. Cost: $7969+tax (includes shipping and installation). Student Council agreed to pay $2500. Possible fundraiser at DJ and Dessert spring function; donations with name and date included on wall plaque, possibly sell for $15. Prices: Relief wall ~ $7969, Basic wall ~ $6700. Motion by Jodi P. for PTO to match up to $6200, money will come from surplus funds. 2nd and unanimously approved.

    New Business:

  • Cookbook, Eadie Balint, received 500 recipes. Will do as 3 ring binder. Committee will decide on name. Order 300 and sell for $12. Jo Givin motion to approve $1284 to pre-order books. 2nd and unanimously approved.
  • Science Week, still need volunteers.

    Announcements: Bobcat Tales deadline 15th of each month. Internet Safety Presentation –3/20/08 in gym. Meeting adjourned at 8:25pm.

    Present: Susan Bauer, Melissa Callaway, Eadie Balint, Gail Ledbetter, Wendy Gosselin, Kris Mitchell, Shawn Brown, Kristin Everett, Surya Singh, Rachel Carr, Bonnie Mitchell, Cindy Breard, Gretchen Saunders.

    Call to Order: 7pm, by Melissa Callaway. Quorum. Announcements from district: nominations for teachers for KVEW, investigating possible language program (dual, English/Spanish)

    Presentation of Minutes: Gretchen Saunders, Jan minutes approved as written.

    Treasurer Report: Kris Mitchell, Jan. - Income $1564.33 Expense $1196.42 (statement attached).

    Principal’s Report: Gail Ledbetter, Liz Gear is new kindergarten teacher replacing Mrs. Thometz. Will reschedule teacher work day from 1/28 (snow day), on data/tech. Poetry Alive Assembly on 5/16, will help meet writing goal as part of School Improvement Plan. District writing assessment in mid Feb for all except 4th graders (they will do in May). Winter MAP completed. Kindergarten Readiness classes for parents, 2/20 and 2/27. McTeacher’s night, Tues, 3/25, 2 locations, McD on Canal and Clearwater. Money goes into special school fund then teachers decide how spent.

    Teacher Representative Report: Wendy Gosselin, kids had great time doing blanket project. 5 DI teams will go to regionals in Wenatchee.

    Gift Request: Gretchen Saunders, 3 from 1st gr. for Jan Brett class-set books and companion movies for Winter Traditions/author study, $625.77. 1 from Gail Ledbetter for 8 portable presentation boards which will give us one for each classroom, $1386.15. Motion to fully fund made by Cindy Breard, 2nd and unanimously approved.

    Old Business: Melissa Callaway.

  • T-shirts design contest, deadline, 2/15. Mr. Bell is assisting with judging contest.
  • RSD Levy – remember to vote 2/19.
  • Blanket project- still need to complete a few more blankets.

    New Business:

  • Strategic Planning Committee. Kris Mitchell presented overall financial picture. Melissa Callaway presented. Top priorities identified as Tech, Literacy, and Recreation.
  • Tech - PTO match school funds and buy 6 Tech Carts, approximately $9000.
  • Literacy – classroom books for kindergarten, $1500
  • Recreation – Rock Wall for gym. 8’x 40’. $6000-$10,000. Perhaps team with Student Council and share cost?
  • Motion made by Shawn Brown to spend up to $5000 for Rock Wall, approximately $9000 for 6 Tech carts, and $1500 for books. 2nd and unanimously approved.

  • Family Movie Night – need to move date to Fri 5/30.
  • Question on 4th gr math strategies by Surya Singh. Mrs. Gosselin discussed this with him 1-on-1.
  • Spring Book Fair – change date to coincide with Movie Night, Tues 5/27 - Mon 6/2.
  • Internet Safety – Susan Bauer presented information by parent/attorney who is an expert on Internet crimes and crimes against children. Susan will plan a meeting, try for 3/20, and will start with our PTO and parents. Depending on interest, maybe later open to other parent groups.

    Announcements: Bobcat Tales deadline 15th of each month. Kris Mitchell, reminded teachers to spend their support fund certificates, and would like to say thank you for the roses, goodies and decorations!
