Notes from our Principal, Gail Ledbetter
May 2008
Dear Parents:
Can it be that we have less than 30 days to the end of school? It does not seem possible! And so we find ourselves attending to and enjoying end-of-the-year celebrations and routines.
We celebrate with our fifth graders as they leave the world of elementary school behind and enter middle school! We are so proud of them and all the work they have done for the past six years. They are ready for this next step! Carmichael Middle School staff will present an orientation to middle school on May 22 at 2:00pm in our gym. During this presentation, Carmichael staff will explain everything there is to know about middle school in one hour (!) and set up our students to be successful Carmichael Cougars. Parents are welcome to attend this session.
Additionally, we celebrate all of the learning that is happening in our classrooms. Kindergartners are watching chicken eggs hatch this week! This is just about the most exciting event in kindergarten. First graders are readers! We celebrate the love of reading with these amazing learners. What a joy it has been to witness their discoveries as readers this year. In second grade, we celebrate the emergence of butterflies! The fluttering of wings in the butterfly columns is a wondrous thing. Second grade students will want to introduce you to their special pets, who they have named. Third graders returned from an eye-opening science field trip to LIGO this past week! Celebrating scientific learning has created great memories for our third graders. Have you visited a Poetry Cafe recently? Our fourth grade classes celebrated poetry this past month with poetry readings! The presentations revealed their writing in a beautiful way. Specialties Projects rounds out our fifth graders’ year. These projects are superb, and we will celebrate with a showcase in our gym on Thursday, May 15. You all are invited to observe the work of our fifth graders.
Thank you for partnering with us as we keep our building safe and secure during school hours, by having all doors locked except for the front door. Thank you for checking in at the office and getting a visitor’s badge. This helps us know who is in the building and ensures we have safe and secure students and staff members. There are many events in the next few weeks at Badger Mountain! Please check the calendar in this newsletter for those important dates for your child and you.
Warmly,
