Summer is busy time for maintenance and operations staff (photo gallery)

While Richland School District students and teachers enjoyed summer vacation, there was considerable activity taking place inside the schools. Maintenance and operations staff were working on some major projects.

“We get a lot of work done when the schools are empty for two months,” says Jeff Lettau, Director of Facilities and Operations. “We tackle specific remodeling and improvement projects which are difficult to complete when school is in session. The District saves money by keeping these projects in-house as much as possible.”

Some of the completed projects are:

  • Gym floors were refinished at all schools.
  • The fire alarm system at Hanford High School was replaced.
  • Badger, White Bluffs, and Wiley Elementary Schools received new drinking fountain/bottle fill stations.
  • Freezers and fridge units were cleaned and serviced.
  • Water heaters were examined and flushed as needed.
  • Stairwells were upgraded.
  • Several storage rooms were converted into working office spaces for additional staff.
  • Anti-graffiti coating was applied to the brick and stone work on the new modular classroom buildings.
