Hanford High hosts national Guitar Building Institute (photo gallery)

A Guitar Building Institute took place in the Hanford High School wood shop last week. Teachers from all over the west coast learned how to build guitars so they could take that knowledge back to students in their home school districts.

“The primary focus was the application of Computer Numerical Control technology as it relates to manufacturing guitar components,” stated Ed Ufford, Hanford High teacher and one of the Institute instructors.

The National STEM Guitar Project and the National Science Foundation sponsor these innovative Institutes throughout the United States. Those attending learn STEM applications as they relate to the guitar. The institutes present hands-on, applied learning techniques with the goal of engaging students in STEM subject matter.
