Supporting Our Troops
October 2008
Jefferson Elementary School recently sent 19 care boxes to military troops stationed in Iraq (photo at right). Below are some of the responses received by the school.
"I just opened the package and have already devoured the rice crispy treats - I love them! Thank you so much for the kindness and generosity you have shown me and my fellow troops.
"I would like to tell you about a project I am working on that you may be interested in. I am responsible for operations here in Iraq on a volunteer basis for an organization called Kids of Iraq. We serve as a
conduit for folks back home to help support the schools and kids in the neighborhoods around our bases. Please take a look at our website and see if it is something you would be interested in... www.kidsofiraq.org
"Again, thanks for the package. I'll be watching a movie tonight and reading some interesting magazines as I share some grub with my fellow airmen. All thanks to Jefferson Elementary."

"I want to thank you for the care packages that my team received today. Knowing every Sailor, Soldier, Airman and Marine are getting such great support from the home front allows us to focus on mission accomplishment so that we can come home with our heads held high. The time and thought put into this is appreciated more than you'll ever know."

"The care packages were a surprise to all of the members on my team and the looks on their faces were priceless. I can use many of these items and the couple items I already have will be given to our chaplain who shares with other soldiers and airmen in the area. I am especially touched by the cards and efforts from your students.
"We are an Air Force Forward Engineering Detachment and we specialize in Civil Engineering. Many on our team are degreed and registered Civil Engineers. We are tasked to design, program (work the funding stream) and construct and inspect new facilities for both the Army and Air Force as well as local citizens. Some of the most rewarding work for me so far has been to develop positive relationships with the Iraqi people I have come in contact with.
"I volunteer a few days a week at the Air Force Theater Hospital in the Emergency Room assisting the medical technicians, nurses and docs. While I have experienced many of the horrors of war, I have witnessed many miracles here as well. The hospital has been featured in many articles and
documentaries and has made a lot of history. They have a 95% success rate at saving the lives of any that come through.
"Contrary to much of the news on TV, we are making tremendous strides in rebuilding relationships, infrastructure and dignity to the Iraqis. Your support makes being away from home a lot easier."
Respectfully,
